Thank you all for helping to kick this off!

I've updated the Global Character Log to reflect your landing adventure.

ONE MAJOR NOTE
I failed to give you Discovery exp for finding a new type of zombie! That + your summary will get you to level 2 before your next adventure. Two days of traininig and 50gp total for the level.

Each of you were paid 50 gp to do this (The DM waves his hands) so, pending your summary, it's leveling time!

Grundr's first session log:

IMPORTANT NOTE: If I misrepresented facts about anyone here in the character section or even if you think I didn't catch your intended vibe, chalk that up to my bad memory and notetaking skills and please let me know what you would change. I will change it.

Met Brunhildo Claevage. Have to figure out how that is pronounced later. He has a big axe he calls big sis. During the voyage, whenever drink was had, he always had a raunchy tavern song in the chamber! Also, we think his dimensional pedigree suggests a gelatinous cube in his ancestry. Go figure.

Met Zenitha. She taught all the kids on the voyage dragon chess, and subsequently created a cadre of hustlers. The gambling scene in the new world will be thriving. I saw her in the crows nest at odd hours when I was cataloging nocturnal wildlife. She was always first on the scene of anyone in distress on board. I have a soft spot for those who help anyone, regardless of their background.

Met Lutrum. Didn't have as many conversations with him, but watched him fleece the money of almost every crew member. Before it could land him in hot water, he had the sense to lose it all back, so I imagine its all water under the bridge. I wonder who would win between Zenitha's rascals and him at dragon chess? I remember seeing him board. He looked like he was in a hurry. I can relate.

Met Devin. He was terrible at dragon chess. I'd hate to see his record against Zenitha's rascals. Anything having to do with dexterity or target throwing though? He schooled everyone. He mentioned something about his father being in Waterdeep. I wonder what the story is there.
--
We took a large dinghy to the docks at the cracked wharf of this place. Shenanigans ensued. We were attacked by these gross waterlogged zombies. You could hack the flesh off of them but their skeletons kept going. Once they were all dispatched, we brought the crew around in the boat to a mooring suitable for the ship and kept exploring. There was a big gathering of skeletons near the beacon at the end of the wharf. They were all facing one direction, and it looked like they had been scorched from the rear in some type of ambush. In any case, not much notable magic was present outside of the beacon, which Zenitha lit and turned to a color of her choosing. I found a rotted strongbox. The salt air corroded a bunch of silver in the box, but hopefully with a coinsmith (or maybe just a smith), we can clean it off and use it to help establish something sustainable around here. I also found a practice lock and some thieves' tools in the strongbox. We've got more shore parties coming soon.

"The boat ride over was mostly uneventful; surprising amount of dragonchess for a bunch of mercenaries and seamen, usually it's dice getting thrown about. Turns out even though we were in the boat there were still sharks about, some dipsticks still ended up losing their shirt in a gentlemen's game. To children no less! I did also get too drunk and hack at the mast a couple times, but it wasn't entirely my fault, Big Sis was eggin' me on. Also no one's pronouncing my surname right, a tad odd as it's pronounced exactly how it's spelled.

So, the Big Day arrives, landfall. We reach some derelict docks and take the tender to scout it out. Apart from the docks there's a couple islands and a lighthouse nearby, but no time for that just yet. Goody Two-Boots, don't remember her name (started with a Z?), decided to make a big splash by reaching land first, but she ended up making a big splat instead from slamming into the side of the dock at low tide, her armor slowly sqeaking against the stone while she slid into the water. Considering she's about as buoyant in that armor as an anchor I dove in to help her out. Barely had to do anything, most I did was offer a rope while she was already securing herself against the dock and hoisting up into a cleft. Not particularly majestic, but as the first person to make landfall she has up to 36 hours to name the land, if I'm remembering the Empire custom correctly. We'll see if she exercises that right.

Party isn't even off the tender before we get attacked by some soggy individuals emerging from the water. Tough bastards they were, hacking at their flesh just made it slough off so they could fight on as skeletons. I just threw some handaxes at them whilst lauging with the crew, but Devin was in water landing shots on moving targets with Z booting them off the side. This gang is gelling pretty quickly.

We saw a beacon on the way in, up close there's a pile of bones next to it that we still can't quite figure out why they're there. The beacon's got some runes talking about some nature God, and Z got it lit up with a fine deep green color. Grundr (bit of an odd fellow, keeps to himself to the point no one saw him until after the ship had left port) made use of his one ear and hears up a treasure box with some silver. Somebody can cast elbow grease on it and they'll make us all a pretty copper.

Rest of the place is locked in with fog, and I can tell we're being watched. Time's comin' for them to meet the landing party."

My dear Otar,

I have just arrived in this new land, so the last notebook is now on its way to you. It is my greatest hope that it may give you a palpable and vivid recreation of life at sea these last two months. My request, I trust, for another dozen of your custom yo-yo's made sense by the time you reached the end.

Though somewhat fog-bound, the ruination that greeted us gave every indication of a once-beautiful and thriving community. The docks indicate strong trade necessitating significant space on a consistent basis, and the integration of the natural inland water features fills my heart with joy, for it shows, I feel, an desire to work with the land, not in spite of it. Perhaps we will make time for diving and exploration of these spaces and find more clues to who these people were and what made their lives complete.

That is not to say that the experience was all wonder and discovery. The sea around the island has proven less bountiful than one would expect, as well as slightly more undead. I have included some crude sketches below with notations on the unique identifiers of the creatures that greeted us. Have you any knowledge of such things? From undying sacks of flesh to furious, living bone, I confess, is more disturbing that I like to admit. Still, they were fair enough sport. They seized upon us as soon as we...well, I...left the landing boat.

Before you ask, yes, I was the first one out of the boat, and, no, I did not stay out of the water, but I promise that I got a bit of my own back by stabbing the heads off one or two of the algaeic creatures. Some of the others in the landing party - little Grundr included! - seemed to know just what do do, and all of the attackers were quickly dispatched. The sailors who rowed us over were, I fear, unengaged in the battle, but they were unharmed and quite content once we landed, so I suppose there's nothing we can fault them for. Not everyone wields the same tools to the same ends.

While there were some disquieting mysteries, including a large pile of skeletons of indeterminate species splayed out in an array indicating desperate flight toward the wharf's beacon, Grundr - clever thing! - found a very old, deeply dilapidated box that ended up being quite a boon! He found some tools that will come in handy later, along with a significant amount of silver, which will set us up nicely for the next phase of our journeys. I also managed to relight the beacon, which I hope will be a source of cheer and encouragement to all who see it. It is a green that bespeaks the lush life force of Spring, but I may change the color to the appropriate hues for whatever holidays the colony decides to celebrate.

Oh! I haven't told you yet, and for that you must forgive me. In addition to Grundr and myself, the landing party consisted of young Lutrum - I suspect he was sent to be less trouble on land than on the ship - a quiet lad named Devin, whose accuracy with a dagger or a quoit is something to behold, and a brick wall named Brunhildo, who's love flows greater for his ax or his bawdy songs no one can tell. I have yet to discover what drives the hearts of these bold young men, though given the tasks will have been set before us, and will most assuredly present themselves at a later date, we will have no choice but to exchange confidences, however small, in the days and weeks to come.

How is the academy? Has Master Tibult completed the temple garden yet? What did Alloria name the baby? There are so many things I want to hear about! All the things about home really. I know that you won't leave out anything important.

I must close now, as we have secured the wharf and must now begin preparing for the entire ship to deboard and start their new lives.

Yours, as always,

Zenitha

P.S. Please ask Ms. Thornmallow for her roast joint of mutton recipe and, if not too much, please send the appropriate spices for two attempts. We do not yet know what provisions this island has in wait.
